I attended the Vancouver Folk Festival last weekend, and planned to write a few words about it because it shares a very strong kinship to our radio show. We’re like spirit bros, both existing primarily to break down artificial boundaries between musical genres and nationalities. We are also both quite used to being typecast. Folk festivals are for yuppies, and World music is for hippies (or some similar labeling). But these generalizations just prevent other people from joining the party. People that would really enjoy the party. Anyways, I think it’s worth writing a bit about Folk Fest, so this is a promise to myself and others that I will do so right here. Plus I snapped a nifty picture of a child rock star in the making. Proof that I discovered him first.
