Frequent Wandering Rhythms guest Brandon “Blocktreat” Hoffman just released a lovely artisanal music video – an urban electronic nature walk through his hometown of Williams Lake BC (Traditional Secwépemc Territory). All is calm in the empty city streets, until squiggle monsters and a colossal mutant guitar riff roll into town for Act 2!!
Alpha is the first single from Blocktreat’s upcoming After Dark LP.
2018 was a year. There was more humanity in the world than ever before. It was wild. But the people made some brilliant sonic documents that just might outlive their creators. Here is a supremely subjective best-of-2018 music mix, blatantly ignoring all other best-of list. Mostly obscure music from far away that I think is exciting. Hope you hear something fresh (PLAYLIST HERE). Bless the creators out there!
And look here, an uncut dance mix!
Mélisande [électrotrad] = Mouth harp, flute, bangers!
At last, something to bring together the folk heads and the candy ravers. One of the most ambitious projects to come out of Québec in quite some time, Mélisande [électrotrad] have concocted a booty-shaking fusion of Québecois folk music and electronic jams. Sounds like something that might upset the purists, but Mélisande have gone to great lengths to preserve the authenticity of the source material, even traveling to the U.S. Library of Congress to dig up ancient recordings. This program features an interview with Mélisande, discussing their tour and brand new album, les Millésimes
¡También, vamos a España!
Sicily, a semi-autonomous island of 3-legged women, a beautiful ancient language, and many experimental sounds. Bellu!
Tis the season of growing darkness ’round these parts, so let’s celebrate with strange and sinister sounds that go bump and bloop in the night. Scary music is also strangely danceable, so feel free to move (or remove) your limbs as you get down to the sounds of Italian disco, doom cumbia, Kenyan vampiric dancehall, and vibrations of indescribable terror!
